UG Hall Allocation Policy Review (Task Force)

Introduction​

With the new student residence targeted to be available in coming years, the number of University bed space for UG students will be increased by 1,000 to a total of around 5,500, excluding some beds potentially to be reserved for hall renovation work.​

In response to the increase in housing supply, the University reviewed the UG Hall Admission Policy for Residential Year 2023-24 and onwards. A Task Force on UG Hall Allocation Policy Review (Task Force) including students and faculty members was established for discussions from different perspectives. ​

The ten-member Task Force met for the first time on 5 March 2021. Suggestions, feedback and comments were collected from students, University faculty/School and administration staff via various channels including online surveys, emails and public consultation. After incorporating the opinions from the stakeholders, the Task Force proposed the allocation principles and design of the framework and received approval from the University Management.​

 

Mass Consultation for students​

For the ease of collecting initial opinions regarding the current UG hall allocation policy, an online survey for students’ input was made. The survey was closed on 5 May 2021. Here are the results of the Survey:

In addition to the 1 mass survey to all UGs, 2 focus group sessions with local and non-local students, 1 public consultation open to all and 1 informal meeting with local students, on top of the 11 Task Force meetings were organized to obtain students’ comments and recommendations in order to examine and formulate the hall allocation policy.
